Finally got a chance to sit down and read this after having it on my TR pile for 2 years. It seemed more written for a man and lacked the emotional descriptions during the seductoea scenes that usually make my heart race during them.
He’d have flashes where he’d seem more lifelike–admitting that even though he lusted after her, he still looked down on her for her profession or being appalled at the thought that someone who thought it was okay to become a courtesan had taught his little sister–but then would lose it again. One I will not delve into because I think it’s best to go into this not knowing much.
Hawk, yum, is the the Duke. I love books that step outside of the box and push the boundaries of what we are used to reading. I liked the way that the author was able to weave in several real-life historical figures as secondary characters, and there was a political element that for once was actually interesting instead of being dry.
Bel is attacked and raped by the warden from the gaol one night and when she recovers, she approaches a famous courtesan and finds sanctuary in her home. It was my first book by GF, and I was very impressed with her writing. There was no denying these two both loved each other; it just seemed like a doomed relationship.
