The only prerequisite is a basic understanding of differential equations and linear algebra. It provides an accessible treatment for a wide audience who would otherwise have to labor through difficult mathematical or engineering treatments. When you have an equation with 15 terms to keep track of, this gets really confusing and annoying. This book is an excellent introduction to modern control theory.

But what irks me the most is that the book does an absolutely appalling job of telling you the difference between a matrix and a vector and a scalar. The authors are also leading researchers in control theory, and umrray provide additional insight through suggested further reading and explanations about when simplifying assumptions break down.
